Senate Studies Whistleblower Bill

Excerpt: A Senate committee has begun work on that chamber's version of a bill to beef up legal and employment protection for federal whistleblowers.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Oversight Subcommittee held a hearing yesterday to examine Senate Bill 372, the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2009. It's the latest effort by the panel's chairman, Sen. Daniel Akaka (D.-Hawaii) to strengthen protections for those who, as he described in his opening statement, "help root out waste, fraud and abuse" in government.
