Lisa Bernstein
Counsel
Lisa A. Bernstein joined Shaw, Bransford & Roth, P.C. in 2001 as an associate attorney. She practices in all areas of federal employment and personnel law and litigation, including the specific sub-areas noted below, on behalf of federal employees, managers, members of the Senior Executive Service, and others. She appears in litigation before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC"), the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board ("MSPB"), the Office of Special Counsel ("OSC"), and in federal court.Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Bernstein worked for several private sector law firms in Washington, D.C. concentrating in labor and employment law, and representing private and public sector employees and several national labor organizations. During law school, among other things, Ms. Bernstein served as a law clerk for Administrative Judges in the Federal Sector Hearings Unit at the EEOC, wherein she assisted the Administrative Judges on EEO complaints filed by federal government employees. Ms. Bernstein is also active in several local organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of Gifts for the Homeless, Inc., a non-profit corporation comprised of lawyers and staff from area law firms and other legal organizations that has been serving the homeless of Washington, D.C. since 1986. In addition, she regularly volunteers as a job interview counselor at the Jubilee Jobs Placement Program, which is designed to help local unemployed people refine their interviewing and job search skills. Maria N. Coleman
Associate Attorney
Maria N. Coleman is an associate with the law firm of Shaw, Bransford and Roth, P.C. where she practices federal personnel and employment law. Ms. Coleman joined the firm in November 2006. Ms. Coleman received her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 2003 and received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in 2006. In law school, Ms. Coleman served as a student attorney in the Civil Practice Clinic, where she represented clients at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Merit Systems Protection Board, Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals, and Circuit Court for Prince George's County. She also interned at two divisions of the U.S. Department of Treasury. At the General Law and Ethics Office of General Counsel at main Treasury, she worked on administrative law issues involving rulemakings and employment issues involving whistle-blowing and employment discrimination. At the Departmental Office of Treasury, Ms. Coleman wrote Final Agency Decisions on employment discrimination cases. She was a Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Honors Intern in the Investigative Law Unit of General Counsel. She also served as a judicial intern for an administrative judge at the Hearings Unit of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C. Christopher J. Keevan
Associate Attorney
Christopher J. Keeven joined Shaw, Bransford & Roth, P.C. in 2009 as an associate attorney, where he practices federal personnel and employment law. Before joining the firm, Mr. Keeven served as General Counsel for the unions representing the U.S. Capitol Police and U.S. Park Police. Mr. Keeven represented law enforcement officers under investigation and subject to adverse employment actions, including removal and suspension. He also represented law enforcement officers and federal unions in grievance arbitration proceedings and unfair labor practice proceedings. In addition to legal representation, Mr. Keeven also offered training for the union representatives on federal labor and employment law. During law school, Mr. Keeven worked as a law clerk for a business litigation firm in Denver, CO. Mr. Keeven received his B.A. from the University of Missouri - Columbia, and received his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he also served on the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy. Mr. Keeven is admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois, and his admission in the District of Columbia is currently pending. While his application for admission in the District of Columbia is pending, he is practicing under the supervision of William L. Bransford and Debra L. Roth. Julia H. Perkins
Counsel
Julia H. Perkins is a counsel with the law firm of Shaw, Bransford and Roth, P.C. where she practices federal personnel and employment law. Ms. Perkins joined the firm in November 2009. Her practice is concentrated on the representation of federal executives, managers and employees in all aspects of federal personnel and employment discrimination law before U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Merit Systems Protection Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Offices of Inspector General. Prior to joining SB&R, Ms. Perkins was a Senior Counsel for Employment at the United States Senate, representing Senate offices on labor and employment law issues. Ms. Perkins also has extensive litigation and counseling experience representing private entities and state and District of Columbia governmental entities on employment law matters. Ms. Perkins received her B.A. from the College of William and Mary and received her J.D. from University of Illinois College of Law.
